The Custom Build Process of each McClanahan Mandolin is comprised of hand
made craftmentship filled with maticulate detail
There are many things that set apart a custom handmade instrument from a
manufactured one. The time spent on each individual piece, without any worry
of deadlines or quotas, allows the closest attention to the finest of details.
The “Trinity” is one of my greatest examples. Herringbone trim is
used to give it an exquisite look and “Old World” appeal. One at a time the
intricate metal engraving, graduations, scraping, chiseling, F-holes, tap tuning
and pearl overlays are all done by hand.
Only premium tone woods are used for each model. For the back, sides, and
neck Highly flamed Curley Maple is the wood of choice. Red Spruce (Adirondack)
is used for the top and tone bars. Ebony is used for the radiused fingerboard
and Peg head overlays.
From the mathematics of the air chamber, Tone, Volume, Cosmetic appointments,
and elegantly shaped F-Holes, ”The McClanahan” mandolin has all of the attributes
that set it apart from all others.
The process by which each instrument is aged stands above all the manufacturers processes.
Looking in the Gallery, you will notice that my aging is cosmetically “tuned” to the age
in which it represents. Whether it is the 30 year, 50 year, or 80 year aged look,
it is accurate and realistic to the most finest of detail.
